The Kii THREE Active Monitors
We have known the Kii Audio team for some time. CEO Christian Reichardt and Product Manager Thomas Jansen together were a powerhouse distributor for Grace Design in Germany for many years. CTO / Designer Bruno Putzeys, who's many acheivements include pioneering class-D amplification for high end audio, was also a principle designer at Grimm Audio. These gentlemen, along with the rest of the team at Kii, represent a major new force in the audio world.
Their premier product is the Kii THREE active loudspeaker system. Each speaker has 6 individual drivers, each powered by its own 250W Ncore amplifier. Complete control of the system is done in DSP. Their unique Active Wave Focusing filters direct the sound dispersion in a cardioid pattern, effectively placing the audio directly in a wide sweetspot where the listener sits. Back and sidewall room reflections down to the bass frequencies are all but eliminated, making the Kii THREE perform incredibly well in even less than perfectly treated acoustical environments. This is not hyperbole. The Kii THREEs can perform like soffit mounted studio mains, but at the size of nearfileds* that will sit comfortably on a meter bridge.
When we heard the Kii THREE speakers for the first time it was a revelation. Their compact size belies their incredible power** and stunning frequency response***. The low end is balanced, impactful and accurate and eliminates the need for a subwoofer. The midrange is open and tactile, and the high end is effortless and detailed. Moreover, the entire frequency range is seamlessly connected, allowing the complex tonality of instruments to be perfectly rendered and the full spectrum of the recording to be heard clearly and beautifully. Whether listening or working, the Kii THREEs disappear almost immediately, allowing you to hone in quickly on the specifics of the recording and performance.
Grace Design is a small, busy company with more than enough work to do bringing our products to life. But when we heard the the Kii THREEs and were subsequently presented with the opportunity to distribute them to the US Pro Audio market, we knew we had to do it. Saying these speakers are a game changer feels cliche, but it's true. They are. We have put them up against monitoring systems twice their size and cost and knew right away which we would choose.
Additionally, they have now launched their Kii CONTROL, a beautiful, compact controller which turns the Kii THREE into a complete playback system of highest sonic quality and usability. It offers a user interface for the Kii THREEs and works like a digital preamplifier. Inputs include: S/PDIF, Optical TOSLINK and USB (up to PCM 24/384kHz and DSD64/DSD128 on USB).
