Jazz at Lincoln Center Installs m802 System



The Music Studios at Jazz at Lincoln Center, located in New York City, has installed thirteen of the recently released Grace Design m802 remote-controlled mic preamps.

The system was specified by Randy Ezratty and Joel Singer of Effanel Music/XM Productions, and the sale was handled by Chris Payne of New York based Grace dealer, Tekserve.

The m802 has been designed for audio professionals in the music recording, film scoring, sound and fixed installation markets and is comprised of two components; the 2U, 19” mount 8-channel preamp and an external 1U, half-rack linear power supply. The optional m802RCU remote control unit can control up to 8 m802s at a distance of up to 1,500 feet. The system can optionally be fitted with 130V inputs on a per channel-pair basis to accommodate customers using DPA 130V microphones.

MIDI control has been implemented which provides compatibility with Digidesign’s Pro Tools|HD® workstations and control surfaces as well many other MIDI based hardware and software platforms.

“We chose the m802's for their natural timbre, fast transient response and the ability to remotely control the preamps from our Digidesign Pro Tools|HD rigs.” explained Rob Macomber, Engineer at the Music Studios at Jazz at Lincoln Center. “I’m mixing live in Pro Tools|HD controlling 72 channels of the m802 preamps, located at the stage, directly from one of our Digidesign D-Control control surfaces.”

The m802 carries an SRP of $4,995 (US) and the optional m802RCU remote has an SRP $1,495 (US). The 130V option is priced at $295 (US) per channel pair. The m802 system is through Grace Design’s channel of authorized US dealers and international distributors.

New Options for m906

Since its introduction in 2004, the m906 5.1 monitor controller has continually raised the bar for high fidelity surround monitoring. Sales of m906 systems have been fantastic and we recently had the honor of placing 57 units (!!) with one of the top national television broadcasting companies (who wishes to remain anonymous).

Development for the m906 is an ongoing process, much of which is driven by customer feedback. So we continue to improve on its features and functionality through firmware and hardware updates, which are always available to current m906 owners. Two recent feature updates offered to new and existing m906 customers are: a Downmix module and an AES Loop-Thru feature.

DOWNMIX

The DOWNMIX module enables users to create a stereo L+R mix of a 6 channel surround source. All standard Dolby mix ratios can be calibrated by the user for both the center and surround channels. This module is available as an option on new units for an additional $350 US or as an upgrade to existing units for $425 US.

AES Loop-Thru

The m906 AES Loop-Thru option provides m906 users with four AES digital outputs via the existing rear panel multi-channel AES DB-25 input connector. Each of the outputs is completely isolated and is designed to drive a 110-ohm termination. This option allows users the convenience of passing AES signals through the m906 to other devices downstream, most commonly outboard digital metering systems.

This module is available as an option on new units for an additional $395 US or as an upgrade to existing units for $450 US.
